Super Scrabble
I love this game! The additional letters and larger board make it exciting, especially having quadruple word scores! The only thing that would make it better for me would be if the board were a little sturdier, however I play with adults, so we're careful when setting up the game. We're playing Super Scrabble tonight at GAME NIGHT!!!!

senior pleasure
I am a senior citizen and I have to keep my mind sharp. I play by myself lots of times and pretend 4 people are playing.
Time just flies , and before you know it 2 hours have gone by in a jiffy.

Nice new challenge for classic Scrabble veterans...
I've played the traditional board for 50 years, and since my new wife and I play an average of ten games a week, it was time for something fresh. Our games had become "speed Scrabble" and were usually finished in 25 minutes, with the winner's score ranging from 325-410 or so. The this version cost is equal to what we spend at the local cineplex for two movie dates with junk food. We expect to have thousands of hours of pleasure with this item. The board's ball-bearing ride does suck, as many other reviewers noted. Our solution has been to put the new larger board right on top of our old board and its lazy-susan turntable. Works fine that way on our dining table, on top of a placemat. It's been fun learning where the big score squares are, and waiting to get two "Q's" or two "X's" or two "Z's" at the same time. Our scores now, winning or losing, are usually in the mid-600's. It takes us 70 minutes for a game, cutting our play to one game a night, which doesn't hurt a bit. For anyone who likes to play regularly, with fairly competent opponents, I recommend it. You might end up making a few new words, and will definitely have fun learning the triple and quadruple letter square locations.

Super scrabble board not made well
I do like the expanded version. I am not happy with how poorly the board is constructed. I received it in a broken state. Plastic hinges are not strong enough to hold the boards weight. I had to glue and tape it together so it will not fall apart anymore. Pretty pricey for poor weak plastic design.

Super scrabble - truly super!!!
Larger board, more letters, and a raised grid so the tiles don't move when bumped. What more can you ask for? This is scrabble made better. I play it with my 6 year-old and he's getting so good that he can beat me now. It has really helped develop his word-building skills. Overall, a great game for the whole family!

A great choice
Great buy for Scrabble fans seeking, sleeker, more modern style. overall well build, classy silver/black scrabble set. Recessed board, engraved black tiles, black velvet tile bag, rotates...what more could you ask for?

Cheap Construction, Over-Priced, Some Good Features
Pro:
Yes, it's unique.
It has an upscale appearance.
This board will not wear out like the fold up boards did down the center fold.
The tiles fit within the raised letter grids - nice.
The timer worked well.
The score pad is cool.

Con:
The turntable is too close to the table top and consequently when turned, it hits/knocks over the tile racks.
The board with turntable screamed "cheap" in it's construction
(the turntable squeaks and groans as it's turned, it doesn't rotate smoothly)
(within the frame the plastic-coated paper board design is off-center and not completely glued to the board surface, below the raised letter grids)
(there are random indented lines/cuts, of varying lengths throughout the playing surface)
(the wooden base has minor scrapes and digs along the top and sides, as do the tile racks).
The tile racks are shallower than earlier editions.
The score book pad fell from it's hard cover, apparently the glue had dried out.
Collecting the tiles at the end is difficult. They scatter a bit when tilting the board into the box.
A solution is to place the box-top over the board, then turn it upside down to empty the tiles into
the box then transfer them into the bag.

Summary:
How my scrabble game appears to others is not very important.
It's having a fun evening with friends.
The Onyx Edition is not worth , not , not even in it's unopened box!
In our tough economic times, Hasbro should be embarrassed to sell the Onyx Edition for so much money and so little quality!

Three stars for the solid wood/not folding board and the raised letter grids.

Fun for everyone !
Bought this for my Mom who is 87. I play Scrabble with her every other week. This new board is beautiful! We LOVE it!

Something to pass on to your children
I bought this is as a gift for a friend in Calcutta where we'll be visiting again this year. My main concern was humidity destroying the cardboard boards of the other ones I've seen. This is very durable with wood base and lazy Susan turntable. I don't see the problems other people have had. And I'm jealous of my friend getting this because I've really enjoyed playing on this set.

Scrabble Onyx Edition
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R9YNRZAUT67VT I made a short video review of the Scrabble Onyx Edition and the extra goodies it comes with. It's no Franklin Mint edition, but it is a really nice product which will continue to look nice for years to come. Worth the investment if you're looking for something unique and a little more professional looking than the original deluxe version. It also has a solid piece board which will not wear out over time from folding which is a huge bonus in my opinion.

In a Nutshell: A snazzy improved edition of Scrabble that's both fun and functional.

Expert Tips and Fascinating History
If you've never played Scrabble before, the Gameplay Guide explains the rules in a clear, easy-to-read way. It also has lots of tips to sharpen your game (a list of "q-without-u" words, for example). The sturdy plastic board needs no assembly and the storage trays cleverly built into the bottom of the board are easy to find, especially with help from the Gameplay Guide. The game also comes with a Gameplay Guide that offers many helpful hints, as well as interesting historical tidbits (For example, did you know the game used to be called "Criss Cross Words?")

A Sleek New Look for Scrabble
The black-and-silver tiles, the smoky red racks, and the velvety tile pouch give this Scrabble set a touch of class. The curvature of the racks help you to see your letters more easily than you could on the old, straight racks. During gameplay, the raised grid will help keep your tiles firmly in place, even when the board spins towards another player. The pouch helps keep all the letters and racks together during play. Put them in the storage trays when you're done, fold the board back up -- and voila -- you have a carrying case that makes this deluxe Scrabble game easy to take with you.

Fun and Functional
We really liked the look of this colorful board, with its cheerful blue, green, red, and orange "premium" squares. We also appreciated the way the set folds up into a carrying case, complete with the storage trays and handle. It's not advertised as a travel set, but you can use it that way. You just have to be careful to hold the set closed when transporting it, since it doesn't snap shut. Also, the storage trays can get a little full when you try to put all the letters and racks in one tray, so make sure you tuck everything neatly into the tray so it will close.

Millions of people around the world love the game of Scrabble, and we're sure they'll be just as happy as we are to see this new, improved edition with features that make it both more fun and more functional!

What's in the Box

ICK
I've been playing scrabble for over 30 years. I own the 25th and 50th editions as well as 2 travel scrabble games.
My neighbor bought this diamond edition and brought it over to play. We were both very disappointed. It's just plain cheesy. The board folds to make a case - it looks and feels kiddy-like. This is not an edition you can proud of in front of company. SUCH a disappointmnet! :( Hope they do better for the 75th!

Great Upgrade...Great Price!
My husband and I were playing computer games one night and ran across scrabble and even though it was lots of fun, it just wasn't the same as the good ole original board game. We looked here on Amazon and found this Anniversary Edition and although we didn't buy it for that reason, we did buy it for the durability factor and the lazy susan board feature.

We have already played it, just the two of us, about a half dozen times for hours at a time. It is truly a classic and one that ALL children should experience.

Why the weird color scheme?
Nice game. Well made and durable. I like the black & silver tiles, and the curved letter holders are thoughtfully designed. I like the way it turns on wheels instead of a turntable. I just don't understand why they felt they had to mess with the color scheme. Anyway, Scrabble fans should be happy with this board. It should last a lifetime.

Favorite Scrabble board
My husband and I collect different Scrabble edition boards. We have about 10 different sets. This one is by far the best. The board has a turn table and is it's own box. Everything fits in one piece and you don't have to worry about loose pieces when you get the game back out. I love the pull out drawers. Great design!

A Great Scrabble Board
Kinda funny how many people are upset about the color scheme. Oh well.

This is a great board. The indentations keep the tiles from getting out of control, the wheels on the bottom make it easy to spin, and the whole thing folds into one easily portable package.

Our only problem with it is very minor - the trays don't snap in super securely, so we've had them spill out a few times while carrying the board. Just make sure you're holding it level, or put a piece of scotch tape over the storage trays.
