Amazon.com Review:
Dinosaur lovers of all ages are in luck! The D-Rex 2.0 Interactive Dinosaur is a friend, guardian, and prankster all rolled into one toy. Designed for kids eight years and older, this dinosaur --brought to life with "biomorphic robotics"-- features over 100 sounds and movements. Using a bone-shaped remote,D-Rex responds to an "attack" command by roaring and stalking a victim, and he wags his tail when kids pet the back of his head. D-Rex's level of interaction increases with the ability to memorize and perform a sequence of up to 30 actions.

Fearsome Predator or Lovable Pet?
Though he wears a collar and stands only 14 inches tall, this D-Rex is still a "fearsome" predator. Kids will be enthralled by his realistic skin, and lifelike movements, which are possible thanks to biomorphic robotics. His fiery orange eyes scan the room, and his neck and tail "muscles" ripple with movement. D-Rex has a personality all his own with over 100 sounds and movements, as well as sensors that respond to light, sound, and touch.
Become His Master
Using the bone-shaped remote control, kids can program D-Rex to perform a number of actions from up to 25 feet away. Pressing "attack" mode makes D-Rex stand alert, and pressing it a second time sends him on a roaring rampage. In "guard" mode, D-Rex stiffens and scans the room, moving his head from side to side. At the first sound of an intruder, D-Rex will roar to alert you.
While D-Rex is an effective guardian, like any pet he has needs of his own. If D-Rex's tail stops wagging, he may want attention. Pet his head and quickly get his tail wagging. Also, to keep his hunger at bay, kids can feed him. His jaws will move up and down, stopping only after he has had his fill.
Lifelike Interaction
As kids learn to tame D-Rex and keep him happy, they can relate to him much like a real-live pet. In "seek" mode, D-Rex comes when you whistle, and in "prank" mode, he repeats funny sounds. Best of all, an advanced training feature allows kids to teach him a specific sequence of actions that he will then repeat on command.
As a power-saving feature, D-Rex takes a "Dino-nap" when not being used. Parents will want to assist with removing the toy's packaging and installing two "AAA" batteries (not included) in the bone remote control.
What's in the Box
D-Rex Interactive Dinosaur, five "C" batteries, and bone control. (Two "AAA" batteries for the remote control not included.)

Model: R9415

For kids 8 and up.
My 9 yr son wanted this so badly, I made him learn his times tables first and he got it as a reward, he had waited for it and was so excited, for months he was on about it after seeing it in a toy shop. He wss initially crazy about it, but he played with it for two days and hasn't touched it since. Once he went through all the commands, saw what it could do and wore out the first set of batteries, very quickly, within the two days, he was bored.
Great product, batteries on it will cost a fortune so be ready for that and older kids get bored quickly with it.
I just got him a guinea pig and he's having a lot more fun with that as this dinosaur is too robotic and doesn't hold his attention, he has something now that can love him back. I think it may be better for slightly younger kids.

Clearly the D in D-Rex is for disappointing.
Very highly anticipated gift. Unfortunately the skin was defective. We tried it out for a few days to determine if we were going to return or replace it. Sadly, the dinosaur did not perform as it indicated it would. It was impossible to keep "happy" and the programming was weak. I'm not sure if this was due to some hidden defect, or if it was just subpar programming.
The dinosaur itself was very cute, and if a future incarnation has improvements over its programming as well as fixes the skin issue, we would try again.

Wonderful toy
The toy to get my hands without problems, no scratches or damage. My son just saw him cry of emotion, playing almost every day with him.
The only thing I dislike is that when you touch a lot in one place, the skin color is falling.

Fun toy
I ordered this toy the thursday before christmas and it arrived the following wednesday.(Free Super Saver Shipping).Derex is rec. For age 8 & up but I bought it for my 7 year old son,& he loved it. After playing Santa for a 7 & 2 year old boys that was the last thing to be cut out of the box. After operating D-Rex it had the whole family's attention, my wife even enjoyed it. I'll say it again, D-Rex is a fun toy & it's worth paying $[...] vs $[...] in stores.

great
This is the only thing my daughter asked for at Christmas. I hesitated because of the reviews. I purchased it when it went down in price. Nothing has fallen apart or peeled. So far so good. My daughter is very happy with it.
