About the Production of Mountain Boy Sleds
In his small, family-run workshop Huangyan, China, Yu Guanglin and his crew make by hand, paying attention to the beauty of the wood, selecting the best materials, and getting all the details right. He buys sustainably harvested birch logs, and has planks cut from them to just the right thickness. All the little pieces are used to make ornaments, and the sawdust is used to fire the wood-drying kiln, so there’s very little waste. In his shop, Mr. Yu carefully prepares all the materials: each plank is planed by hand, and each willow branch is peeled and sanded by his crew. When he assembles the sleds, he makes sure that all the parts match and have no flaws.
Mountain Boy sledmaker Brice Hoskin is fluent in Mandarin, and travels to China to inspect sleds several times a year. In Mountain Boy's long relationship working with Mr. Yu, Brice has been able to closely monitor not just the quality of the product, but also working conditions and the way the workshop is run. The 8 to 10 skilled craftsmen who work in Mr. Yu's shop have chosen his company because of its commitment to safe working conditions and dependable year-round employment. Mr. Yu provides housing for all of his workers and their families to ensure that both the work and living environments are as hospitable as possible.

awesome!
not a professional's sled, but so adorable, works great in the snow. my 3 year old loved it. pretty sturdy, though we only used it a few times in mammoth.

Nice but will have to return
As a previous reviewer stated, this is a nice sled but our 15 month old kept tipping over on uneven or unpacked snow. We ended up having to push her instead which was not as much fun. Maybe if she were heavier or could hold onto the sled to prevent herself from falling off it would have worked better. Unfortunately we had to return the sled. Quick ship and easy returns as always on Amazon.

beautiful unpracticle sled
We bought the sled living in a snowy area for our 21 month old to take him with us while XC skiing. BUT the sled is not steady and tips over sideways throwing his face straight into the snow. We returned it very sad. He had really hoped it would work because it's beautiful.

beautifully hand crafted but it stops there.
We received this sled today and upon opening it my two year old daughter went crazy. First off, this is one of the most beautifully, hand crafted sleds I have ever laid eyes on. We could not wait to get out in the snow. Upon sitting my daughter in the sled I started to pull her and was amazed at how easy the sled glided across the snow. However, the excitement less than ten feet away when we came to the first part of the slightest uneven ground; the sled tipped over and my daughter landed face first. I cleaned her off and set her back in the sled. Several times we tried to pull her around just in our yard. Every single time we came to the slightest incline or uneven area she tipped over. After the fifth tip over she was done. We were both disheartened as this would have been a keeper, however, I don't want to hang it up in the den for its beauty. I need a functional sled simple as that.
I contacted Mountain Boy and explained the issue and Kevin just didn't know what to say to me. With such high craftsmanship the actual sled (bottom) should have been designed far better. Even using the same slippery plastic material would have suited if there was a wide channel cut down the middle and it acted as two skis as opposed to a solid bottom. We live in Ohio and have about a good six inches of snow out there right now. her old sled was designed for 6-24 months so she outgrew it. it was a Pelican and never tipped over because it had a center channel to funnel snow acting like skies.
I would have given this sled 5 stars for the woodworking craftsmanship alone, but it has to be functional and work well. The sled is described as stable and looking at the bottom one would think so. Mountain Boy, redesign the sled with skies and a channel down the middle and you have an absolute winner! This sled may also work better in powder snow. Either way we are saddened by having to return it as its just that beautiful to look at.

Well made but limited utility
I purchased the Mountainboy Sledworks Bambino Grande Pull Sled and the pad for it for Christmas for my 17 month old grandchild. The sled is very well made out of quality wood. However, your description indicated that it is "large enough to accommodate two tolddlers." This sled, although well made, is in no way is large enough to hold two toddlers. It just barely holds one. As for the pad, the ties do not not stay tied and the pad continually slides down.
I chose this sled thinking that my grandchild would be able to use it for two seasons, and that her baby brother would be able to ride tandem. She will probably be too big for it halfway through this season.
Perhaps it would be more useful for a much smaller child, but there are no safety straps or harness to keep the child in the sled. It also tipped over on uneven, icy snow.
Needless to say, we are very disappointed in the way this sled was represented in Amazon's online description. It was an expensive purchase based on the limited use it will receive.

The Ultimate Flyer is an elegant, hand-made beauty that glides and turns like no other sled you've ever tried. The entire front section of the sled pivots, letting you make much sharper turns than on a conventional flexible flyer. And, it looks great standing on the porch in between sled runs. The Flyer is made to last for generations: thick birch planks, hand-carved willow hand rails and stainless-steel hardware make it tough, and the sturdy plastic skids on the bottom are designed to last for many years. When we build an Ultimate Flyer, we start with planks of beautiful, golden birch. We plane down the planks, sand them, burn in the Mountain Boy brand, and give every piece several coats of marine-grade finish. We attach hand rails of hand-carved willow, giving each sled a unique look and feel. Copper ferrules between the body of the sled and the rails add to the rustic look, while adding substantial strength. Just how strong -- well, some of our crazier fans take them off 6' jumps and see how much airtime they can get. On the bottom of the sled we attach a pair of proprietary, custom-molded plastic skids. We like to think of them as greased lightning -- they are very fast, but their shape allows for smooth, decisive turning. Contoured runners bite into the snow or ice so you can carve down hard-packed slopes, while a solid bottom of custom-molded slippery plastic lets the sled float through soft snow. The Ultimate Flyer meets all ASTM and USC child safety criteria. Measures 52L x 24 W x 4 H. Patent-pending. Weight limit: 300 lbs. Age range: 3 years+

impressed
I ordered this sled for my granddaughter for Christmas. My daughter and husband were so impressed with the craftmanship and beauty of it! It's also large enough that everyone in the family will enjoy it. I'm sure it will provide many hours of family fun!I'm sure it will last for years as opposed to most of the "disposable" type other products that are now being offered.

re-discovered sledding with this "real" sled
I've had one for these past 2 winters and just ordered another for my nephews. I think if I had one of these as a kid, I might never have gotten hooked on skiing. I'm finally able to maneuver around obstacles and go fast at the same time!
We visited Silverton, Colorado and tried one out at the little ski area there. We were actually able to run a slalom course (while laughing our heads off).
I was worried about the heaviness of this thing, but the black bottom slides so smoothly, I haven't had any trouble tugging it up the hills. We picked this one because it is long enough for adults too.

Mountain Boy sled
I ordered the Mountain Boy sled for an adult son who, last winter when it snowed, wished he had a sled. He's difficult to buy gifts for, and this was a huge success. He says it's a "work of art," and can hardly wait for one of Western Washington's infrequent snows to try it out.

Fastest sled I have ever owned, Beautiful fit and finish
This is the Fastest sled made. I have tried several different runner, tube, plastic and toboggan style sleds and this sled is the fastest sled I have ever rode. The unique plastic bottom with runners I believe is responsible for this speed advantage. The sled has the speed advantage on both powder and hard pack. Pivoting steering mechanism also works very well and really gives you good control. The longer 52 in model can hold more adults/kids and I think is the right size without being too big. The wood finish is spectacular and really shows the handmade craftsmanship. This sled is very well built and Mountain Boy has a good reputation of standing behind their sleds. Overall, I think you get what you pay for and with this sled it really seems that they really thought about how to build a better sled from many different aspects. I did not see any short-cuts in their design or build.

This is the best sled EVER!
We received this sled for Christmas and just took it out for its maiden voyage today. WOW, is it fast! We had to drag our feet at times to slow down. It took a few runs to get used to and was mostly ridden by an adult and child together. Keep in mind, you need to make sure you have some weight in front to steer -- but it is very easy to steer if you keep this in mind. I am back on Amazon tonight to order the pad now. We were slipping off too easily and I think this will help. We highly recommend this beautiful, functional, fast sled to every family! I should also mention that my husband liked all the attention we got for having the coolest sled on the hill!
